AI in the Energy Industry: What Actually Works
AI isn't a fashion word here. I've used it in the daily work since 2024. This page says where it helps and where it does harm.
Why a general-purpose AI fails here
Utilities work with their own terms, fixed processes and tight duties. A general AI doesn't know that. The answer then sounds smooth and is wrong.
The problem isn't the model. It's whether the AI knows energy law. Without that, the answer is useless. With the wrong knowledge, it's dangerous.
Where Deployment Fails
I keep seeing the same three patterns: expectations set too high, too little of your own data, and no link into the processes you already run. The hoped-for gain doesn't show up.
Chatbots with no training in energy law are the risky ones. They give customers the wrong answer. So do forecasts built on old market data.
