Construction-cost contribution (BKZ) for battery storage

A construction-cost contribution is a share of the grid expansion a new connection triggers. For batteries I cannot state a figure here that would hold as a fixed amount.

What the contribution is for

It is meant to fund the expansion a new connection causes. Whether it is charged depends on voltage, available capacity and the operator’s published conditions. A battery behind an existing connection raises a different question from a new site on the transmission grid.

Capacity, simultaneity and the mode of operation change the sum. A euro amount per kilowatt that fits every project is deliberately not stated on this page.

What the 2025 discussion changed

Commentaries report a decision of the German Federal Court of Justice from July 2025 to the effect that a construction-cost contribution can also be considered for storage. Whether that reaches your network area and voltage follows from the wording and from the operator’s conditions, not from a summary.

What can be discussed is what the operator actually applies: the calculation base, the capacity counted, the moment of payment. A flat statement that batteries are exempt is no longer a safe starting point.

What to settle before accepting an offer

The contribution belongs in the economics before the connection offer is accepted. Calculating afterwards means the site decision is already made. The same logic applies to securities that individual distribution operators describe together with a reservation.

I check the points of attack against your project. A binding calculation is issued by the operator, not by this page.

In the same context

Not legal advice. The court decision and the operator’s conditions prevail over this reading.

Common questions

How high is the contribution for a battery?

It cannot be stated as a fixed amount. Voltage, network area and the expansion actually required decide whether a contribution is charged and how it is calculated. The figure comes from the operator.

Are batteries exempt?

A general exemption should not be assumed. Commentaries point to a Federal Court of Justice decision of July 2025. Whether it covers your case has to be read in the wording and in the network area. This is not legal advice.

Can the contribution be negotiated?

What can be discussed is how the published method is applied: capacity counted, timing, credits. A free price does not replace the operator’s method.
